Home MenuOperations
The South San Joaquin County Fire Authority provides service from seven (7) fire stations and one Fire Administration building within a 170 square mile jurisdictional area. Four (4) stations are located within the incorporated boundaries of the City of Tracy while three (3) additional fire stations are located within the boundaries of the Tracy Rural Fire Protection District. The Fire Authority provides all-risk fire protection services including but not limited to Advanced Life Support (ALS), emergency medical service, fire suppression, hazardous materials, and rescue.
The South County Fire Authority was originally established in 1999 through a Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement (JPA). A JPA is permitted under Section 6500 of the State Government Code and allows two or more government agencies to centralize responsibility in an effort to provide services across jurisdictional boundaries. A Joint Powers Authority is a distinct entity and requires its own Board of Directors. The Board of Directors for a JPA are given powers inherent in all of the participating agencies. In 2018, the member agencies dissolved the 1999 agreement and entered into a new JPA known as the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority.
The current member agencies of the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority JPA include:
- City of Tracy
- Tracy Rural Fire Protection District
Residents and visitors of our community receive fire service from the Authority as a single jurisdiction. The closest available resource regardless of member agency affiliation will always respond to emergencies within the Fire Authority service area.
