CERT Vision:

To help Tracy residents with the skillset to be prepared in the event of a disaster so that they can help themselves, their family, and their neighbors.

Overview:804 Presidio 044

The South San Joaquin County Fire Authority, in coordination with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), assists residents with disaster preparedness education and training through a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for services typically rendered. The local population will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate lifesaving and life sustaining needs. The Community Emergency Response Team is a program that focuses on that preparedness.

CERT Training:

CERT is offered “free” to residents, neighborhood communities,  faith-based organizations,  high schools,  senior centers and government agencies within Tracy's jurisdiction. Students must be over the age of 18.

The CERT training courses are usually held in 3 hour sessions, twice a week over a 3-week period.

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify and anticipate hazards in the community
  • Reduce fire hazards in the home and workplace
  • Extinguish small fires
  • Conduct light search and rescue
  • Setup medical treatment areas
  • Provide disaster first aid
  • Assist themselves, their family and their neighbors.

Those who complete the entire 20-hour Basic Academy and complete the CERT Disaster Simulation Final will receive a Certificate of Completion and a CERT Basic Emergency kit. Disasters can happen at any time in Tracy.  We experience earthquakes, fires and flooding. Are you, your family, and neighbors prepared?
