What is Community Risk Reduction
Community risk reduction is the process of identifying and prioritizing risks in the community and then implementing strategies to reduce their impact. In 2018, the Fire Prevention Division changed its’ name to the Community Risk Reduction Division. The name change was designed to reflect the proactive approach the division takes in protecting citizens from risks in the community. A community risk assessment is an essential step to help better define the community’s unique risks.
The Fire Authority engaged the company mySidewalk in the development our department’s community risk assessment insight generator (CRAIG 1300). CRAIG 1300 provides data driven insights that align with the nine community profiles located in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1300, Standard on the Community Risk Assessment and Community Risk Reduction. CRAIG 1300 is an efficient tool that will allow us to better focus our resources and help make the community safer. You can access the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority’s CRAIG 1300 Dashboard by clicking here.
Our Community Risk Reduction continues to strive and provide the highest level of fire prevention services through comprehensive inspections and code enforcement, plan review, public education, fire investigations, and exterior hazard control to identify potential fire hazards to ensure the necessary corrective action is taken to mitigate the hazard.
Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, the Community Risk Reduction Division includes the following services: Code Enforcement and Inspection, Plan Review, Public Education, Special Events, Fire Investigation, and Hazard Mitigation and Management.
